Demonstration planned near US Consulate General in Istanbul January 29; heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions possible

Protesters are set to gather at the US Consulate General in Istanbul on Wednesday, January 29, for a demonstration denouncing US President Donald Trump's Israeli-Palestinian peace plan, which was announced on Tuesday, January 28. The demonstration will begin at 21:00 (local time), and related protests are possible near the Israeli Consulate General in Istanbul. Transportation disruptions, including traffic restrictions and road closures, are expected in the vicinity of the US consulate on Wednesday.

Large protests were reported on Tuesday night in front of the US Embassy in Ankara and in front of the Israeli consulate in Istanbul, and left-wing groups held a demonstration in front of the US consulate in Istanbul earlier on Wednesday. Similar protests also took place in Van, Malatya, Muş, and Adıyaman provinces on Wednesday.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of any demonstration. Similar protests are possible throughout Turkey over the near term. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
