Authorities confirm at least 21 killed and over 1,030 others injured following 6.6-magnitude earthquake on January 25; rescue and recovery operations ongoing

Turkey's disaster agency confirmed that at least 21 people have been killed and 1,030 others injured following an earthquake that struck near Doğanyol (Malatya province) on Friday, January 24.
According to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), four of the fatalities occurred in Malatya, and 17 others in the neighboring Elazığ province. Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing as of early Saturday morning, January 25, attempting to free those still trapped under the ruble.
Originally recorded as 6.8, the earthquake's magnitude was later revised to 6.6 by the Kandilli Observatory.
Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger.
