Storm Ciara hits nationwide with gale-force winds, western country under red alert, eastern country under orange alert February 9-10; heavy rain, storm surge, and lingering associated disruptions expected

On Sunday, February 9, Storm Ciara (Sabine) hit parts of the Czech Republic in the evening (local time), bringing dangerous gale-force winds and heavy rain. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHI) forecast a continuation of the adverse weather into Monday, February 10, with extreme danger warnings issued through much of the western half of the country. Less severe orange alerts have also been issued for the eastern region. Winds are expected to reach hurricane levels in mountainous areas on Monday.
Several flights to and from Prague's Vaclav Havel Airport (PRG) have been canceled.
Further transportation disruptions, including flight and train delays and cancelations, are to be expected over the coming hours and days.
