The Inter-Party Resistance Against New Voter Register (IPRNA) political coalition is planning to hold a rally and march in the capital Accra on Tuesday, February 4. Supporters are being asked to gather at Kawukudi Park at 06:00 (local time) before marching through Kanda to the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters. The protest will end at Liberation Circle (Children’s Park).

While the demonstration is expected to be peaceful, a heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated around all protest sites. Further protests are possible over the near term.

Context

The IPRNA previously held protests in Tamale (Northern region) on January 11 and Kumasi (Ashanti region) on January 20. IPRNA leaders are calling on the EC to suspend plans to compile a new voters’ register.
