At least three rounds of indirect fire landed in the International Zone in Baghdad on February 16; similar attacks possible in the near term

At least three rounds of indirect fire (IDF) landed in the International Zone in Baghdad at approximately 03:30 (local time) on Sunday, February 16. Local sources confirm that the attack targeted the area surrounding the US Embassy, and that it was highly likely organized by a Shi'a milita group.
A similar incident occurred on Sunday, January 26, amid heightened tensions nationwide. Similar attacks are possible in Baghdad over the near term.
Context
Tensions have increased in Iraq after US forces killed Qasem Soleimani, the commander of Iran's Quds Force, near Baghdad International Airport (BGW) in an airstrike on January 3. Notably, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), was also killed in the strike.
