Warning

Event

Heavy rainfall has been reported in multiple southeastern regions of Ethiopia since Friday, April 24, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured, as well as damaging properties and infrastructure. The deaths were recorded in the city of Dire Dawa (Dire Dawa district). Additionally, landslides have been reported in southern Ethiopia which have displaced hundreds of people.

Further heavy rainfall is forecast, and consequent flooding and associated disruptions, including road closures, are to be expected in the affected areas over the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions, anticipate transportation and business disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
