Iraq: Suicide attack in Kirkuk leaves three wounded April 27

Event

On Tuesday, April 27, three suicide bombers approached the Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Directorate bureau in Kirkuk but were stopped by Iraqi security forces at their gates. One of the bombers, however, launched a grenade and detonated his vest, the second also detonated his vest, though the third fled the scene in a vehicle and remains at large. Three people were injured in the attack.

The Islamic State (IS) has since claimed responsibility for the attack, and marks the 97th attack nationwide in April thus far.

A heightened security presence remains possible throughout Kirkuk in the coming days.
