Lebanon: Protesters block roads in Beirut on June 30 /update 120

On Tuesday, June 30, protesters blocked several major roads in central Beirut as Lebanon's economic crisis worsens. Protesters gathered at the Corniche El Mazraa and Verdun street was closed using garbage bins, with security forces gathered nearby and severe congestion reported.

Context 

The value of the Lebanese pound hit a record low on the black market on Tuesday, as the government raised the price of bread and announced that soldiers would stop receiving meat in their meals. The Al-Makhazen Coop, one of the largest food retailers in the country, reacted by closing all of its stores following a rush to purchase goods, such as candles, flour, and yeast, amid rising prices.
