Lithuania: Anti-racism activists to stage demonstrations in Vilnius on June 5

Anti-racism demonstrations to be held outside US embassy in Vilnius on June 5; localized disruptions likely

Warning

Event

Demonstrations organised by anti-racism groups are scheduled to be held in Vilnius on Friday, June 5, in solidarity with protests in the US over the death in police custody of George Floyd. Over 1000 people are expected to join a rally in the city's Cathedral Square at 16:00 (local time) before marching to the US embassy via Gedimino Street, and Basanaviciaus Street. Related demonstrations, including some by far-right groups, are also expected to be held at the Vilniaus Rotuse and other locations on Friday afternoon.

The demonstrations are likely to cause localized travel disruptions. Further protests are likely in the near term.

Advice

Those in Vilnius are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations due to the risk of potential crowd disturbances, anticipate a heightened security presence and transportation disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
