New Zealand: Disruptions anticipated in Auckland during Black Lives Matter demonstration and Commercial Bay opening June 14 /update 1

Multiple road closures and public transport disruptions are expected in Auckland (North Island) on Sunday, June 14, as renewed Black Lives Matter demonstrations will be held and the Commercial Bay mall will also be opening. Queen Street will be mostly affected, with closures between Wakefield Street and Customs Street. Customs Street will also be closed between Lower Albert Street and Commerce Street. Bus services, including the City Link, Inner link and NX1, will be diverted around the events. Road closures and public transport disruptions are expected to last until about 17:00 (local time).

The Black Lives Matter protest on Sunday will be the second such protest following the large demonstration on June 1.

Separately, a Super Rugby game at Eden Park is also being held on Sunday, the first post-coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-lockdown game in Auckland; large crowds are expected along with transportation disruptions.

Large crowds and gatherings are to be expected on Sunday, along with a heightened security presence. Disruptions to business operations are to be anticipated.
