Chile: Weather warning issued for Ñuble region July 4-5
Authorities issue weather warning for Ñuble region on July 4-5; heavy rain and associated disruptions expected
Event
The National Emergency Office (ONEMI) issued a warning for possible thunderstorms and associated disruption in the Ñuble region between Saturday night (local time), July 4, and Sunday morning, July 5. Strong winds across the region are also predicted and authorities recommend that residents do not leave their homes. Additionally, ONEMI advised those in the region to avoid the vicinity of machinery, metal fences, and power lines.
Thunderstorms have also affected the Santiago Metropolitan, Valparaíso and O'Higgins regions, affecting at least 100 houses on Saturday.
Associated flooding and landslides, as well as transportation, business, power, and communication service disruptions, may be expected over the near term.
Advice
Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions and flight reservations before setting out, anticipate transportation and business disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
