Japan: Heavy rain forecast for western and eastern regions through July 26
Heavy rain forecast in western and eastern regions of Japan through July 26; flooding, landslides and associated disruptions possible in the coming days

Heavy rain began falling in northern parts of Kyushu island on Friday, July 24, and further heavy showers are forecast across eastern and western regions through Sunday, July 26. The Japan Meteorological Agency has forecast 300 mm (12 in) of rain in Kyushu in 24 hours from Friday through Saturday, July 25, with 250 mm (10 in) forecast in Shikoku, 200 mm (8 in) in Chugoku, and 100 mm (4 in) in Kinki, Hokuriku, and Tokai regions.
Weather officials have warned of the threat of landslides, overflowing rivers, and flooding in low-lying areas. They have also warned of the possibility of lightning strikes and sudden gusts of wind, including tornadoes. Associated disruptions to transport and business are also expected over the weekend.
