Russia: Hundreds protest in Moscow July 15

Hundreds of anti-government protesters gather in Moscow July 15; avoid all protests

Warning

Event

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Moscow on Wednesday, July 15, to denounce constitutional reforms that allow President Vladimir Putin to run for two additional six-year terms as president when his current term ends in 2024. Around 500 demonstrators marched down one of Moscow's main boulevards wearing masks with the word 'no' and called for Putin to resign with signs and chants. Media reports suggest that more than 100 people were arrested by security forces; however, this information has not been confirmed by the police as of Wednesday evening (local time).

Further protests and associated disruptions are likely in the near term. A heightened security presence is also to be expected.

Advice

Those in Moscow are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
