Hundreds of firefighters were deployed to extinguish a forest fire in the Gallipoli peninsula on Monday, July 6. Two villages, Yalova and Kumkoy (Eceabat district), close to where the fire broke out were evacuated as a precaution. Reports indicate that the fires caused maritime traffic in the Canakkale straits to be suspended. There have been no reports of casualties currently.
