Graduate interns plan to demonstrate in Lilongwe on Friday, August 7. The demonstrators plan to gather outside the vice-president's office at Capital Hill at 09:00 (local time) to protest over the delay of a government internship program. The program's start date has been pushed back from the beginning of August to the beginning of October due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Several thousand people could reportedly participate in the demonstration.

A heightened security presence and localized disruptions are expected in the vicinity of Capital Hill on Friday and clashes between demonstrators and security forces cannot be ruled out.
