Flash floods in the northern Giresun province (Black Sea region) kill four and leave 11 others missing as of August 23; maintain heightened vigilance

Turkey's Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu announced on Sunday, August 23, that four people have died as the result of flash flooding in the Giresun province (Black Sea region), and 11 others are missing. Approximately 133 people have also reportedly been rescued from floods in Giresun, where Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) teams have been deployed. Images from Giresun show streets and vehicles inundated by thick mud that has washed through the province as a result of the flooding.

Further heavy rainfall and resultant flooding are possible over the coming days, along with associated disruptions to business and transport.

Those in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate possible transportation disruptions and power outages, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
