Venezuela: Attack on security forces reported in western Caracas on August 25

At least one policeman reported killed in shooting attack on security forces on Cota 905 (Caracas); heightened security presence to be expected

An attack on police special forces (FAES) has reportedly left one policeman killed and another injured in western Caracas on Tuesday, August 25. The shooting took place in the vicinity of El Paraíso and Montalbán districts of Caracas on Cota 905, also known as Avenida Guzmán Blanco. Local social media sources report that the situation was ongoing as of 15:30 (local time), with FAES units being ordered to withdraw from the area. The perpetrators of the attack are yet to be identified.

A heightened security presence is to be expected in the area while security forces carry out operations. An associated disruption to transportation is to be expected in western Caracas over the near term.
