Heavy rainfall forecast across Ethiopia until at least September 30; flooding, landslides, and associated disruptions to transport and utilities possible

Further heavy rainfall is forecast across parts of Ethiopia until at least Wednesday, September 30. Recent flooding has already left over 144,000 people displaced along the Awash River in Afar regional state and overall has impacted over 240,000 people, destroyed over 200 rural roads, damaged six bridges, and damaged at least 140,000 acres (56,656 hectares) of crops.

Further rain could bring flooding, landslides, and associated disruption to transport and utilities in the coming days. Western, southern, and southeastern areas are forecast to be worst-hit in the coming days.
