Lebanese security forces announced on Saturday, September 5, of the arrests of multiple suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) militant group, in two separate counter-terrorism operations. The groups were arrested following raids on hideouts in the Beqaa and North governorates where security forces seized multiple weapons and ammunition. According to the military, one of the individuals was a commander of a militant cell involved in an August 21 attack in Kaftoun (Northgovernorate) in which three people, including two police officers, were killed. 

Further counter-terrorism operations are possible over the near term.
