North Macedonia: Protests scheduled in Skopje for September 11

Opposition activists to protest in Skopje on September 11; localized disruptions likely

An opposition demonstration is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 11 in central Skopje. The demonstration has been organized by The Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization - Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE) party and is being held to demand a decrease in the price of electricity and the resignation of the current leadership of the Energy Regulatory Commission. The demonstration is scheduled to take place in front of the Paloma Blanca where participants are set to gather at approximately 14:00 (local time), before marching to the Energy Regulatory Commission building. Participants will reportedly block streets in the vicinity of the offices.

Associated business and transportation disruptions are to be anticipated near the demonstration site, as well as a heightened security presence.
