Event

The Women's Manifesto Movement group has planned marches in Lilongwe, Blantyre, and Mzuzu on Friday, October 9, against the alleged lack of representation of women in the government. Participants plan to gather from 10:00 to 13:00 (local time) in each location. Media sources indicate that protesters in Lilongwe plan to march from Kamuzu Central Hospital to Parliament. In Blantyre, protesters will march from the Clock Tower to Kamuzu Stadium. In Mzuzu, participants will march from Katoto Secondary School to the City Council.

A heightened security presence and localized disruptions should be anticipated in the vicinity of the planned rallies. Further associated demonstrations cannot be ruled out and clashes between security forces and protesters are possible.
