Longshoremen continue strike and protests at Vladivostok Commercial Seaport on October 16; further unrest likely over the near term

Warning

Event

Longshoremen held further protests at the Vladivostok Commercial Seaport on Friday, October 16, amid an ongoing strike. The dockworkers occupied the general manger's office at the port during the most recent unrest.

Further unrest at the port and associated disruptions to port operations are likely to continue over the near term. Overland disruptions are possible in the vicinity of the port during demonstrations.

Context

Over 1000 dockworkers launched a strike at Vladivostok Commercial Seaport on October 1 following the dismissal of the facility's general manager Zaribek Yusupov on September 30. Several protests have been held in association with the industrial action. Attempts by port officials to resolve the dispute have so far failed and despite assertions that the port is operating as normal, sporadic disruptions to operations are possible as the strike continues.

Advice

Those in Vladivostok are advised to monitor the situation, avoid any demonstrations and large gatherings as a precaution, anticipate disruptions to port operations, and obey all instructions issued by local authorities.
