US: Scuffles between pro- and anti-Trump demonstrators reported in San Francisco October 17

Six people were injured, including three police officers, in scuffles between supporters and counter-protesters at a Donald Trump rally in San Francisco (California) on Saturday evening, October 17. Reports indicate that a small group of pro-Trump supporters had gathered for a free speech rally near the Civic Center/UN Plaza when a larger crowd of anti-Trump demonstrators reportedly showed up and scuffles then ensued between the rival protesters. Pro-Trump demonstrators reportedly left the scene; however, security forces deployed tear gas against members of the counter-demonstration group who continued protesting on Market Street. Protesters gradually cleared amid a heightened security presence and reports indicate that by 16:30 (local time) no demonstrators were to be seen.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are expected in the vicinity of any demonstration. Further unrest is to be anticipated in the coming days.
