Scuffles between security forces and demonstrators were reported amid nationwide anti-government demonstrations on Friday, November 27. Protests had been called for to demand President Sebastian Pinera's resignation and the release of political prisoners.

In the capital Santiago, activists had reportedly called for demonstrations to center around La Moneda Palace, and a heightened security presence was reported there in anticipation of potential unrest. Scuffles between demonstrators and security forces were reported on La Alameda in the capital, and at least one activist was detained. Several metro lines were also disrupted during the demonstrations. In Concepcion, hundreds gathered to march towards Plaza de la Independencia, and minor scuffles were reported between security personnel and protesters. In La Serena, overland disruptions were reported as demonstrators crowded into the streets in the vicinity of Cordovez Street

Further protests are to be anticipated in Chile in the coming days and weeks. A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions are expected in the vicinity of any demonstration and clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
