North Macedonia: Thousands of opposition supporters gather in Skopje November 26

Around 2000 opposition supporters held a rally in Skopje on Thursday night, November 26, to call for the resignation of the country's prime minister Zoran Zaev. Conservative opposition groups accuse the Zaev government of being too conciliatory to neighboring Bulgaria after they recently blocked negotiations for North Macedonia to join the European Union. There have been no reports of violence or arrests during the protest.

Further protests are expected in Skopje and throughout the country in the near term. Gatherings are already planned in Bitola, Kavadarci, Kumanovo, Ohrid, Prilep, Tetovo, and Veles from 18:00 (local time) on Friday, November 27. Demonstrations will likely be accompanied by a heightened security presence and localized disruptions to transport.
