Nurses plan 24-hour nationwide strike November 23

The New Zealand Nurses Organization (NZNO) has called for a 24-hour nationwide strike involving thousands of nurses on Monday, November 23, to demand pay parity for primary health care (PHC) nurses with counterparts working for District Health Boards.

Around 3000 nurses took part in a previous nationwide strike that took place on November 9, and dozens have also participated in an associated march.

The strike action may affect medical services at healthcare facilities and hospitals; emergency care services will likely still be available. A heightened security presence and localized disruption to transport are possible in the vicinity of associated demonstrations.
