Thousands of protesters gathered in several Peruvian cities on Tuesday, November 10, after Speaker of the Congress Manuel Merino was sworn in as president following the impeachment of President Martin Vizcarra on Monday, November 9. Large protests took place in Lima, Cusco, Piura, Arequipa, Trujillo, Tacna, Chiclayo, Puno, Huancayo, Huancavelica, and other cities. In Cusco, security forces reportedly dispersed protesters using tear gas and light scuffles between protesters and the police were reported on Tuesday. Arrests were also reported in Piura.
