Emerging media reports indicate that a mine in the Red Sea off Al-Shuqaiq (Jizan province) near Yemen border exploded and damaged an oil tanker on Wednesday, November 25. The blast occurred early Wednesday morning (local time) and struck a Maltese-flagged, Greek-managed oil tanker. Reports indicate that the vessel was struck about 1m (3.2ft) above the waterline and suffered a breach. The crew has been confirmed safe with no reports of injuries.
Saudi authorities are yet to comment on the incident.
