The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) has called for nationwide protests to be held on Saturday, November 14, in city centers to demand social reforms. The demonstrations will also mark the fifth anniversary of police action which resulted in the death of a protester at a farmer protest. Participants are expected to gather at 14:00 (local time) and likely protest sites include outside city halls and in public plazas, including Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall in Gwangju and Busan Metropolitan City Hall in Busan. Reports indicate that the organizers are seeking permission to rally in Seoul; however, amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) restrictions, demonstrations remain banned in the capital.
A heightened security presence is expected in the vicinity of protests. Localized disruptions should also be anticipated in city centers.
