Security forces have deployed to Ain al-Tineh in Beirut the afternoon of Dec. 12. Roads into the area have reportedly been closed. The action is in response to a planned protest scheduled to depart Martyr's Square. The reason for the protest march is unclear; however, a connection to ongoing anti-government protests is possible.
The heightened security measures will likely remain in effect through the evening of Dec. 12. Should the protest transpire, disruptions on road routes between Ain al-Tineh and Martyr's Square are also likely. Clashes may occur if protesters ignore police orders to disperse.
