Slovakia: Protest to denounce COVID-19 restrictions scheduled in Bratislava Dec. 12

Activists and political groups plan to protest in central Bratislava, Slovakia, Dec. 12 to denounce COVID-19 restrictions.

Warning

Event

Activists and political groups are planning to protest in Bratislava Dec. 12 to denounce restrictive measures related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The US Embassy in Slovakia has warned that participants may gather at Hodzovo Square, Alexandra Dubceka Square, and Slobody Square through at least the evening hours. Protesters may also gather in other central areas. Thousands of demonstrators are likely to attend the event.

Additional police will deploy to monitor the protest; related security measures, including possible movement restrictions, could prompt disruptions. Clashes between participants and security forces cannot be discounted following similar scenes at related events in the past.

Advice

Remain alert and allow additional time for travel in the protest locations through Dec. 12. Avoid any demonstrations as a routine security precaution. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
