Uruguay: Unionized healthcare workers to hold a 24-hour nationwide strike on Dec. 10

Members of the Uruguay Medical Union (Sindicato Medico del Uruguay, SMU) and the Internal Medical Federation (Federacion Medica del Interior, FEMI) plan to hold a nationwide 24-hour strike on Dec. 10. Healthcare workers are performing the labor action, which will impact the private health sector, to demand improved working conditions and higher salaries.

Although not confirmed by event organizers, protests and picketing associated with the strike are possible, especially outside hospitals and government buildings. Should any demonstrations materialize, security personnel will likely deploy to monitor any large gatherings, especially in the capital.
