Czech Republic: Anti-lockdown activists to protest at Old Town Square in Prague from 1400 Jan. 10

Activists to protest in Prague, Czech Republic, Jan. 10. Increased security, localized disruptions likely; isolated clashes possible.

Warning

Event

Activists plan to demonstrate in central Prague on Jan. 10 to denounce restrictive measures imposed to combat the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The event will take place at Old Town Square (Staromestske namesti) starting at 1400.

Additional police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the action. Large crowds and associated security measures will likely prompt localized transport disruptions in the area around the Old Town Square. Current COVID-19 measures in the Czech Republic severely restrict public gatherings; security services may attempt to shut down the gathering if it is deemed to be breaching these restrictions and may arrest unruly participants. Isolated clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the protest as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Allow extra time for travel in the protest area the afternoon of Jan. 10.
