Warning

Event

Fishers from at least five provinces in Ecuador plan to travel to Quito to march to the seat of the government, Palacio Carondelet, Jan. 20. The action is to protest the government's increase in the price of fuel. It is unclear how many people will attend the protest; organizers are expecting around 60 buses of fishers to arrive in the capital for the demonstration.

Police will probably deploy to monitor the protest and secure the palace. Major violence is unlikely; however, low-level confrontations are possible if demonstrators breach security cordons around the government building. Localized traffic disruptions are likely.

Advice

Avoid the protest. Heed the directives of the authorities. Plan for localized traffic disruptions near Palacio Carondelet in Quito throughout the day Jan. 20.
