Morocco: Postal workers plan nationwide protests Jan. 12

Postal workers to protest nationwide in Morocco Jan. 12. Increased security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Postal workers plan to protest nationwide Jan. 12 over multiple grievances, including poor working conditions and the lack of promotion for workers. Organizers have called on protesters to gather outside Poste Maroc branches in their cities, with the largest demonstrations likely to be at the following locations:

  • Casablanca: Outside Poste Maroc on Avenue des FAR, from 0900, followed by a march

  • Marrakesh: Outside Barid Bank on Avenue Mohammed V, from 1100

Authorities will likely increase security at protest sites. Large numbers of protesters will likely cause localized transport disruptions, particularly in Casablanca and Marrakesh. Clashes between protesters and security forces are possible if demonstrators ignore police orders to disperse or are overly disruptive.

Advice

Avoid all protests due to the potential for clashes. Heed the advice of security personnel. Allow additional time if traveling through affected areas Jan. 12.
