The incident occurred at the intersection of Mercer and Victoria streets in the early afternoon and has caused sewage to spill onto nearby roads; officials have yet to confirm if the spill is impacting safety at Wellington Harbour. Wellington Water has warned people to stay out of the water at Whairepo Lagoon as a precaution. Authorities have also advised buildings in the vicinity to conserve water in the area.
