Twitter confirmed late Jan. 8 the company had permanently suspended Trump's personal account following messages posted by him hours after a temporary suspension of the account had expired. The company said it took the decision due to the risk that the latest messages could incite further violence. The president's Twitter account had been temporarily suspended during the violent events in and around the US Capitol in Washington, DC, Jan. 6.
