Activists to protest at Frost Park in Tacoma, Wash. in the US, from 1900 Jan. 24. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Activists plan to hold a protest at Frost Park in Tacoma, Washington State, from 1900 Jan, 24. The action is to protest a police incident in Tacoma late Jan. 23, when a police officer drove into a crowd of people, leaving at least one person injured, while reportedly attempting to clear a blocked intersection. Organizers have also announced plans to gather at Cal Anderson Park in Seattle, from where groups will depart to join the protest in Tacoma at around 1800, though associated protests are also possible in Seattle. Tacoma is located approximately 51 km (32 miles) south of Seattle.

Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the protest. Given the anti-police sentiment of the protest, the possibility of clashes between police and demonstrators cannot be ruled out. Localized traffic disruptions are likely near the protest area in Tacoma, as well as near the gathering point at Cal Anderson Park.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Heed the directives of the authorities and leave the area at the first sign of violence. Plan for localized traffic disruptions near Frost Park and other known gathering spots the evening of Jan. 24.
