Opposition groups have called for weekly demonstrations against plans by President Idriss Deby to run for a sixth term starting Feb. 13. The events will also call for the release of protesters who were arrested following demonstrations in the N'Djamena, Feb. 4-7. Details on upcoming demonstrations are currently unavailable.
The Ministry of Public Security banned previous demonstrations in order to maintain public order; security forces were instructed to enforce the order. Similar restrictions are likely to be instituted for future gatherings. Security forces may attempt to disperse participants using force if the events proceed. Transport disruptions are also possible in the vicinity of all demonstrations.
