Denmark: Activists to protest in Copenhagen Feb. 13 in support of vulnerable citizens
Men in Black activist group calls for demonstration in Copenhagen, Denmark, Feb. 13. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Event
The Men in Black activist group will stage a demonstration in Copenhagen Feb. 13 in solidarity with the homeless and other vulnerable people who have allegedly been disproportionately affected by coronavirus disease (COVID-19) restrictions. Participants will gather for a rally and charitable event in City Hall Square (Radhuspladsen) from 1200; several hundred people will likely attend. Organizers have also indicated that activists will later march through the city center on an unspecified route.
Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the protests; associated security measures could prompt localized disruptions. Low-level violence is possible; similar demonstrations Jan. 9 and 16 devolved into clashes with police. While bystanders are unlikely to be targeted, any violence would pose an incidental risk.
Advice
Avoid the demonstration as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Allow extra time for travel in downtown Copenhagen the afternoon of Feb. 13.
