Moldova extends COVID-19 measures until at least April 15; international entry and domestic activity restrictions in effect.

Critical

Event

Authorities in Moldova have extended their country's nationwide COVID-19-related state of emergency and associated restrictions until at least April 15.

International Travel
International arrivals do not need to self-isolate upon arrival in Moldova if they can provide proof of having been vaccinated for COVID-19; it remains unclear whether this exemption applies to Moldovan citizens only.

Authorities currently designate all countries with COVID-19 infection rates of more than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants as "red" or high-risk locations. Most travelers from red locations are prohibited from entering Moldova, except for Moldovan citizens and their immediate family members, persons who hold work or study permits, travelers in transit, and individuals traveling for urgent reasons. All travelers permitted to enter from red countries must self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival. As of Feb. 15, the following countries are designated as red locations:

  • Albania, Andorra, Bahrain, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, UAE, Israel, Latvia, Lebanon, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Portugal, UK, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, US, Sweden

Domestic Restrictions
Domestically, all public offices close at 1600 daily. Private gatherings of up to 20 people are permitted but must take place away from schools, hospitals, and other public institutions. Most businesses are permitted to operate provided they adhere to strict health and safety measures; shopping centers are closed on weekends. Facemasks are mandatory in enclosed public spaces and on public transport. Public transport is operating operate at 50-percent capacity. People over 63 years of age must remain in their accommodations except for essential purposes.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments.
