Nepal: Activists plan to march in central Kathmandu from 1400 Feb. 12
Activists to hold a procession in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 1400 Feb. 12. Increased security, disruptions likely; skirmishes possible.
Event
Women's rights activists plan to march from the Basantapur area to Singha Durbar palace in central Kathmandu from 1400 Feb. 12. Protesters are demanding the government take greater measures to ensure justice for rape victims. The procession will likely involve dozens to a couple of hundred people.
Security personnel will likely monitor the protest and may try to break it up if it is especially disruptive. While clashes are unlikely, isolated skirmishes cannot be ruled out. Localized transport disruptions are likely on roads along and near the procession route, which will probably include Prithvi Path. Police may divert traffic from the area.
Advice
Avoid the procession due to possible skirmishes. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near the march.
