Emergency crews are responding to a fire that broke out in Greenhithe, Auckland, at around 1215 March 1. The blaze - which has reached four hectares (10 acres) - has created a large smoke plume in parts of Auckland's North Shore. Officials have told residents of nearby areas to remain indoors and close their windows. There are no initial reports of casualties or property damage.

Police have reportedly evacuated three nearby homes and closed a section of Upper Harbour Drive; additional evacuation orders and road closures are possible depending on fire activity. Heightened security, as well as localized business and transport disruptions, are likely until crews extinguish the fire and officials complete an investigation into the incident.
