French Polynesia: Unionized Tahitian Oil Depot Company workers continuing to strike in Papeete as of March 31
Unionized workers for the Tahitian Oil Depot Company in French Polynesia continue to strike as of March 31. Fuel shortages possible.
Event
Members of the Tahitian Petroleum Depot Company continue to strike in Papeete as of March 31 over various issues, including overtime payments and working conditions. Approximately 80 percent of staff are participating in the labor action at the company's locations in Fare Ute and Motu Uta. Workers are protesting at the Motu Uta site daily. However, significant disruptions are unlikely due to the relatively small size of the employees.
The strike has the potential to cause fuel delivery disruptions in outlying islands of the territory in the coming days, as workers will not unload the latest fuel shipment until reaching an agreement with management.
Advice
Exercise caution if operating near depot sites in Fare Ute and Motu Uta. Heed all security personnel instructions. If operating outside of Tahiti and Moorea, consider stockpiling fuel and limiting use to essential purposes due to the potential for shortages in the coming days.
