The Carterton District Council has issued a boil water advisory for Carterton town as of March 17, after detecting low levels of E. coli bacteria. Authorities previously issued a boil water advisory March 12-15 due to similar concerns. Officials have warned residents to boil water from taps for at least two minutes before consuming and issued a notice to businesses to cease using tap water for operations. The advisory is in effect until further notice.

Carterton is approximately 70 km (43 miles) northeast of Wellington.

Boil water for at least two minutes and allow it to cool prior to consumption. Follow these instructions for all water uses, including drinking, cooking, personal hygiene, and preparing food. Consider stocking up on bottled water supplies.
