The Carterton District Council is maintaining a boil water advisory for Carterton town as of March 21, after detecting low levels of E. coli bacteria. Authorities issued the warning March 17 after a previous advisory March 12-15 due to similar concerns. Officials have warned residents to boil water from taps for at least two minutes before consuming and issued a notice to businesses to cease using tap water for operations. The advisory is in effect until further notice.
Carterton is approximately 70 km (43 miles) northeast of Wellington.
