The blast occurred at the Sokiele Hotel; the hotel is reportedly frequented by local officials and government troops. Reports indicate that the blast left at least one person dead and several others injured, including three security officers. There have been no claims of responsibility for the attack.

Context

The incident is similar to attacks attributed by the regional authorities to the Oromo Liberation Front-Shane (OLF-S), and it is possible that the armed group was responsible for the attack. OLF-S broke off from the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) after the OLF signed a peace accord with the federal government in August 2018. OLF-S is active in Western Oromia and North Shewa Zone and regularly conducts attacks against civilian and state interests.
