The Carterton District Council has extended an ongoing boil water advisory for Carterton town as of April 9 due to persistent concerns of E. coli bacteria contamination. Officials claim there has not been a positive reading since April 1. That reading prompted authorities to issue a warning for the third time; previous advisories were in effect March 17-28 and March 12-15 due to similar concerns. Officials have warned residents to boil water from taps for at least two minutes before consuming and issued a notice to businesses to cease using tap water for operations. The advisory is in effect until further notice. Officials are providing water at the Carterton Event Centre.
Carterton is approximately 70 km (43 miles) northeast of Wellington.
