North Macedonia: Opposition activists to demonstrate in front of the Government Building in Skopje from 11:00 April 25

Members of the opposition Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization-Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE) plan to demonstrate in central Skopje on April 25. The purpose of the action is to demand the release from prison of various nationalist activists convicted for their role in the April 2017 storming of Parliament. Participants will gather in front of the Government Building starting at 11:00.

Large crowds and associated crowd-control measures, including possible movement restrictions and road closures, will likely lead to disruptions in central Skopje. Isolated security disturbances are possible.

Advice

Avoid the protest as a routine security precaution and to mitigate possible disruptions. Allow extra time for travel in central Skopje the afternoon of April 25. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
