South Sudan: Authorities opt to maintain COVID-19-related partial lockdown through April 30 /update 11
South Sudan to maintain existing COVID-19-related partial lockdown through April 30; domestic and international flights operating.
Event
Officials in South Sudan have decided to maintain an ongoing partial lockdown through at least April 30 to curb the spread of COVID-19. Existing restrictions remain unchanged under the new directives. The following notable measures are in place through April 30:
Individuals must wear facemasks in public places. Penalties will apply for noncompliance.
All social and religious gatherings are banned until further notice.
All schools will remain closed, except classes scheduled for examinations.
Private and public sectors must make provisions allowing nonessential staff to stay home on paid leave or have staff on alternate shifts.
Public transport will operate at a maximum of 50-percent capacity.
Restaurants and cafes are open but subject to strict hygienic and social distancing measures.
Bars and nightclubs will remain closed.
International Travel
Domestic and international flights are operational. Incoming international travelers arriving at Juba International Airport (JUB) require South Sudan's National Taskforce's permission before entering the country. Permitted travelers must present a negative COVID-19 test result from a screening taken within 96 hours before arriving in South Sudan. All incoming travelers are subject to a 14-day quarantine or self-isolation. Travelers and airline operators must adhere to preventive measures, including wearing protective facemasks and social distancing. All aircraft must undergo disinfection after arrival.
The nation's land borders have reopened; however, cross-border movement remains mostly limited due to neighboring countries' restrictions.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity.
Advice
Confirm all planned travel arrangements. Plan accordingly for protracted commercial, transport, and logistics disruptions. Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Consider delaying travel if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments.
